Our Team

Executive Team:

Adrienne Arthurs (she/her) - Chief Executive Officer

Adrienne has been leading The Living Room since October 2016, bringing experience from Hertfordshire’s non-profit, business, and education sectors. She is known for her collaborative approach and her passion for helping people of all ages overcome challenges and reach their potential.

Adrienne also has lived experience of a family member’s recovery journey at The Living Room. Seeing the positive impact the charity had on her own family inspired her to take on the role of CEO, so she could help others find the same hope and lasting change.

She is especially committed to creating brighter futures for children affected by addiction, working to break the cycle before it continues.

Alongside her role as Chief Executive, Adrienne delivers training, chairs the board of Revival (The Living Room) CIC shop, and serves as the charity’s Designated Safeguarding Lead. This reflects her strong commitment to making The Living Room a safe and supportive place for everyone in our community.

Mark Wiseman - Deputy CEO

Mark is The Living Room’s Deputy CEO and brings a unique mix of professional skills and lived experience of addiction recovery to the role. With a background in publishing, he understands first-hand the life-changing impact of The Living Room’s support.

Over the years, Mark has played a key part in securing vital funding from grants, trusts, foundations, and community events — helping to keep our services free and accessible. He also leads our external communications, sharing stories that connect with both the people we support and those who make our work possible.

Alongside his role at The Living Room, Mark serves as Company Secretary on the Board of Directors for our charity shop. He is driven by a strong belief that free treatment should be available to every adult who needs it.

Debbie Coote - Therapeutic Director

Debbie has been part of The Living Room since 2012 and has played a key role in shaping our services. She launched our St Albans centre, building a strong foundation for addiction recovery in the community, before moving to Watford in 2022 as Counselling Manager, where she led with empathy and expertise.

In July 2024, Debbie joined the Executive Team as Therapeutic Director, recognising her dedication, vision, and leadership.

Debbie also has lived experience of recovery, which gives her a deep understanding of the challenges people face and the hope that change is possible. She is a qualified counsellor with a Level 7 Diploma in Counselling, bringing both professional expertise and personal insight to her work.

Having worked across all our centres, Debbie is passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality care and supporting people on their journey to lasting recovery.

Counselling Staff:

At The Living Room, our treatment services are delivered by a team of 14 counsellors, all registered with either the Addiction Professionals (previously FDAP) or the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

What makes us unique is that every one of our counsellors is in long-term recovery from addiction. Alongside their professional qualifications, they bring real-life understanding, compassion, and hope to the people they support.

Data Protection Officer:

Lucy Roe (Business Manager) is our nominated Data Protection Officer contactable via email [email protected]

Board Trustees:

Daniel Marshall - Chair

Daniel was Chief Executive of a local Citizens Advice office before becoming a Senior Director at Citizens Advice nationally. During his time, he was responsible for more than £300m of annual income, and grew the size of the organisation by 72%. Daniel worked with various central government departments, rolling out new services which alleviated the problems citizens face, including designing a national £50m service from scratch, and successfully mobilising it across more than 200 charities across England, Wales, and Scotland.

Daniel now runs a consultancy company, and has worked with a variety of organisations across the world, including setting up a new free legal advice service in Central Asia, which continues to grow. He provides ongoing support to a range of organisations across strategy, funding, leadership development, impact, and stakeholder influencing.

Daniel holds a degree in Law and a Post-Graduate qualification in Project Management, as well as extensive leadership and culture training.

In his spare time, Daniel enjoys most sports, particularly running.

Daniel joined the Living Room as a Trustee in July 2017, took on the Chair role in 2022, and lives within a short walk of the Stevenage hub.

Eddie Mills - Vice Chair

After graduating from university with a degree in Business Studies, he has worked in marketing all of his career to date.  Sport is a huge passion, and he captains the 1st XI at Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club.  Eddie spends his winter weekends on the football terraces at Spurs.

Following the death of his younger brother from a brain tumour, he set up the Oli Mills Foundation, which has raised more than £295,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust to date. He joined The Living Room as a trustee in July 2017 after graduating previously from our services.  He took on the Vice-Chair role in 2022.

Spencer James - Treasurer

Spencer has over 30 years of experience in commercial strategy, operations and insights. He now focuses on giving back to the community, serving as a Parish Councillor for Colney Heath, an Appropriate Adult for SASH & Youth Justice in Hertfordshire, and a Director of a Resident Management Company. Through these roles he brings strategic thinking, financial oversight and a collaborative approach to responsibilities that demand integrity and compassion. Spencer is committed to making a meaningful difference through governance, advocacy and practical support, and is well placed to serve The Living Room as Treasurer, joining in 2025.

Jenny Brace - Trustee

Jenny currently works as a commissioner for Hertfordshire County Council but has previously worked for a range of charitable organisations. She has significant experience working in the field of addictions, including holding senior leadership positions and setting up a number of new treatment services. Jenny holds a Masters degree in Voluntary Sector Management and lives in St Albans with her husband and 3 children. She joined as a trustee in March 2018.

Akhilesh Nair - Trustee

Akhilesh, with a commerce degree and an MBA in Human Resources, recently completed an Executive Program at Wharton Business School. He's now a member of the Forbes Global HR Council, recognised for his thought leadership in shaping human-machine collaboration. With over 25 years of global corporate experience across 50+ countries, he's championed diversity and equal opportunities. Akhilesh loves exploring cultures through travel and joined as a trustee in May 2023 to support his community.

Richard Crofton - Trustee

Richard serves as a Partner at PwC, specialising in guiding organisations through transformative changes in their business operations. He excels in assembling powerful teams, known for propelling significant performance enhancements for globally recognised brands. Renowned for his collaborative ethos, Richard creates a nurturing environment that allows teams to flourish. With two decades of experience, he has motivated teams towards achieving remarkable results by rallying them around a shared vision and equipping them with the necessary structure, leadership, tools, and motivation for success.

Before embarking on his corporate journey, Richard dedicated eight years of service to the British Army, achieving the rank of Captain in the King's Royal Hussars. Now residing in Hertfordshire with his wife and two daughters, he maintains his quest for adventure, embracing any opportunity for sport or new experiences with an enthusiastic 'yes'.  Richard joined TLR in 2024 and will be taking over the Chair role from Daniel, in 2026.

Will Roney - Trustee

Will joined the board of The Living Room in January 2025. As a former client, he brings firsthand understanding of the charity's transformative work with individuals facing addiction and their families.

Growing up in Stevenage, Will has personal experience with challenges many clients of The Living Room face, including alcohol addiction and homelessness. He also volunteers with an LGBTQ+ addiction charity, supporting clients through one-on-one sessions and group workshops at various stages of recovery.

His lived experience and professional training provide a unique perspective as both someone who has access services and provider. Will is particularly passionate about early intervention, widening access to support, and advocating for underrepresented groups, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. He is committed to ensuring that the voices of people that use services and those with lived experience of recovery shape the services they rely on. In his free time, Will enjoys film, theatre, politics, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Will is due to take on the Vice-Chair role in 2026.

Kacey Watson

Kacey joined The Living Room as a Trustee in January 2026. She holds an LLB with Criminology and works as a Contract Officer at Hertfordshire County Council, specialising in corporate contracts, governance, and performance management. In her role, she supports procurement processes, drafts contracts, and helps monitor contract performance to ensure services are delivered effectively and meet contractual obligations.

Kacey also has a strong background in learning and development across local authorities and the private sector. She is a qualified trainer and assessor with expertise in safeguarding, bringing a thoughtful and practical perspective to board discussions.

Passionate about supporting individuals through life’s challenges and strengthening resilience in communities, Kacey is delighted to contribute to The Living Room’s mission in addiction recovery.

Kacey lives in Hertfordshire with her husband and enjoys cooking, reading, travelling, and exploring local heritage in her spare time.

We are looking to expand our Board of Trustees.

If you are interested in joining our Board, we are looking for young people who have interest in supporting their local community.  However, if you feel you have skills that would benefit the charity, we would love to hear from you.  Please contact our CEO Adrienne [email protected]

The Board of Trustees meets quarterly, both in-person in Stevenage and online. Expenses are reimbursed and this is a voluntary role.  In addition, to support the board we have sub-committees to support projects and in-depth discussion - these are usually every other month, via video conferencing.

The essential trustee guidance.

The Living Room Founder: Founder and Honorary Life President:  Mrs Janis Rogers MBE

In the late 1990s, Janis Rogers, an addiction worker at a residential rehab project, envisioned a groundbreaking approach to addiction recovery—a welcoming, community-based day treatment centre. Driven by her passion, Janis spent a year tirelessly fundraising and rallying support, and in May 2000, her vision became a reality with the founding of The Living Room. Since then, countless individuals have found hope and lasting recovery through TLR’s unique approach.

Though Janis retired in 2016, her dedication to our mission lives on. The trustee board, CEO, staff, volunteers, partners, clients, and supporters continue to carry forward her legacy, working together to ensure The Living Room remains a beacon of hope for those seeking recovery.

Patrons

Dr Sally Burton DL became Patron of The Living Room in June 2023. Sally became our Patron following her year as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2022-2023. Her focus as High Sheriff was on the impact of drug and alcohol addiction in Hertfordshire.  As Patron of The Living Room and a Deputy Lieutenant, she will continue to raise awareness of the impact, bringing relevant agencies together and encourage collaboration and support for vulnerable people.  We are proud that she will also promote the valuable work and contribution of The Living Room to the Hertfordshire community.
