Become a Trustee at The Living Room

We are currently recruiting three new Trustees to strengthen our board as the charity continues to grow.

The Living Room provides abstinence-based group therapy and counselling for adults affected by addiction, supporting individuals and families across Hertfordshire to build lasting recovery.

As we continue to fulfil our commitment as a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO), we ensure recovery voices are represented at every level of our leadership.

Becoming a trustee means joining a group of people who share a commitment to recovery, connection and hope. The role carries responsibility, but it also offers the opportunity to help guide an organisation that changes lives every day.

Who we are looking for

We are particularly interested in people who bring lived experience of addiction or recovery, or who have supported someone through addiction.

We also welcome applicants with charity sector experience or professional expertise that can strengthen our board.

We are currently recruiting trustees with experience in:

  • Charity governance and voluntary sector leadership

  • Digital, data or technology

  • Fundraising, partnerships or income development

We are also keen to hear from younger trustees who want to develop their leadership experience and bring fresh perspectives to the board.

Previous trustee experience is not required and support will be provided.

Having lived experience of addiction or recovery will never exclude you from leadership here — we believe it strengthens our organisation.

As a trustee you will

  • Help shape the strategic direction of the charity

  • Provide oversight and guidance to ensure strong governance and sustainability

  • Contribute insight that keeps our work authentic, ethical and responsive

  • Act as an ambassador for the charity and its mission

Lived Experience and Recovery Leadership

The Living Room is committed to becoming a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO), ensuring that people with lived experience of addiction and recovery help shape our services, culture and leadership.

We warmly encourage applications from people with lived experience of recovery, or those who have supported a family member or loved one through addiction and recovery. Your insight helps ensure our services remain authentic, compassionate and effective.
